In adults, sudden-onset drooping — especially with double vision or facial weakness — is worth getting checked promptly. Stable, ongoing ptosis in adults is generally not dangerous but can affect comfort, vision and daily confidence.

The most common causes include: age-related weakening of the eyelid's lifting mechanism, ptosis present from birth, changes following eye procedures such as cataract surgery, certain health conditions affecting the nerves or muscles around the eye, and occasionally physical weight on the eyelid such as a growth or cyst.

Age-related ptosis — the most common type — tends to progress slowly over years. Ptosis linked to certain health conditions may fluctuate. Whether ptosis changes over time depends largely on its cause, which is one reason an eye care professional's assessment is useful.

Ptosis crutch glasses are specialised spectacles fitted with a small support arm — the "crutch" — on the inside of the frame. When worn, this arm sits beneath the upper eyelid and gently lifts it to a normal open position, improving the wearer's field of vision. Ptosis crutch glasses assist in keeping the eyelid open while worn — the eyelid returns to its natural position when the glasses are removed. They do not address the underlying cause of ptosis. Yes. All ARTView ptosis frames can be fitted with prescription lenses — single vision (myopia/hyperopia), bifocal or progressive. Simply share your current prescription via WhatsApp and our optical lab will fit the correct lenses into your chosen frame.

We need: Sphere (SPH), Cylinder (CYL), Axis for each eye, Add (ADD) power if you need bifocal or progressive lenses, and your Pupillary Distance (PD). A photo of your prescription card is the easiest way to share this — send it directly on WhatsApp.

Yes — progressive (no-line multifocal) lenses are available in most ARTView full frame ptosis styles. Progressive lenses in ptosis glasses require careful fitting to ensure the reading zone is positioned correctly. Please discuss this with us on WhatsApp before ordering.

If your prescription is outdated or you don't have one, we recommend getting an eye test from a local optometrist first. For ptosis glasses without power (plain lens), you can order without a prescription.

The crutch mechanism may need minor adjustment when you first receive your glasses. We provide guidance on how to adjust it, and our team is available on WhatsApp to walk you through the process. Our dedicated kids ptosis range uses a soft nylon crutch — not a wire — making it safe for children. The frames are sized for children's facial proportions. Adult ARTView frames with metal wire crutches are not recommended for young children.

Always follow your child's eye care professional's advice — they know your child's specific situation. Ptosis glasses may be worth exploring for older children with milder drooping, or as a practical option while longer-term decisions are being considered.
